My zerglings are chomping at the bit. Actually, that's not entirely true. I play Protoss. Regardless, Starcraft 2's first expansion/new episode/whatever-they're-calling-it, Heart of the Swarm, will soon be opening its doors to a small group of players in a closed multiplayer beta. At first, it'll be a select few who have had past experience beta testing for Blizzard, but keep your eyes on your inboxes, as they'll be letting more and more in over time.
Want to be among the first to try Heart of the Swarm? Get your ticket to Anaheim, California now. The MLG Spring Championship begins on June 8 and runs through the 10th, and Blizzard says there will be a large number of public Heart of the Swarm demo stations available.
Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm was supposed to be released this year, but rumors has it that the project is slowed down to make way for the Diablo 3 summer release this May 15, 2012. Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm may come out the end of the year as its release is still to be announced. This is going to be the second installation for Bizzard’s Starcraft. A new teaser trailer is now available for Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming Heart of the Swarm expansion for the sci-fi RTS, StarCraft II. The company also released a recap of a recent Art and Technology panel at BlizzCon 2011.
"When we started the campaign, we just tried to look at everything that's involved, what works and what doesn't work," said Ebbert. "Since it was about Kerrigan, we felt that making Kerrigan a key part of your army made sense.
Right from the start, Heart of the Swarm feels different than Wings of Liberty. Kerrigan is basically a monster goddess who can control millions of Zerg units (a.k.a. Swarm). This time around Blizzard wanted to give players that sense of absolute power. If Kerrigan tells her Zerg to die for her, they don’t get upset, they say “How many?” Now players will feel that responsibility of being the Queen of Blades.
At GDC 2011, during a panel on the future of the strategy genre, GameSpot reports that Blizzard's Dustin Browder gave a little more info on when Heart of the Swarm might be coming out.
Browder stated that he expects Heart of the Swarm to be released in the "next six months to a year." That would suggest that the game could in fact be out by the end of 2011.
