Just saw this on digg... 1.1 Million in 2 weeks I haven't been here in so long, i dont remember if you think vgchartz is valid or not, but still. That is a hot item. I saw 50 copies at costco, does that mean these 50 copies were part of the 1.1 million? or do they wait till costco sells them to record them?
In the past decade, developers have struggled to reach Mario 64's lofty heights, let alone push the platform genre forward. But finally, Nintendo has delivered a sequel as entertaining and inventive as its 1996 magnum opus. This glorious galaxy of wonders is one of the finest platform games ever made...
Just for the sake of comparison, VGC lists Galaxy as selling over 751,000 in its first week.
It's pretty bad if they're overestimating a title by 50%, especially since Nintendo's internal numbers were made public before this chart went up.
I think we're going to see a lot of inflated Futures prices over the next two months and we'll see a lot of drops when the prices are adjusted to NPD numbers.
@charron, With Black Friday two days away and launch numbers coming back at a half of million, I will estimate that three quarters of the launch sales will be pulled in on the second week because of the shopping holiday and less than a third the week after that. Broken down: 1st week: 500k 2nd week: 375k 3rd week: 150k Totals: 1.025M
Add in some random happenings and my OCD for rounding numbers and you get 1.1 million. Mario didn't have nearly the hype that Halo did and it took it two weeks to break a million. Mario will be lucky if it sees sales beyond 1.5 for November. Life time sales will be dragged down too, but we can speculate about that after the new year.
In a November 20 press release, Nintendo states that after one week of sales, GameRankings.com lists Super Mario Galaxy as the top-rated game of all time, as well as Metacritic calculating a score of 98/100.
@Alpha, You say, a effective sold out game will sell more in the second week than in the first? I know its black Friday, but thats something I definitely doub.

VGC has US+CA numbers, we do only US. And with the current trend that won't reach the current price.
