Some real world (ie not the exclusive (p)reviews whos scores we know already) are trickling in (for both versions) and it isn't looking great for the Metacritic or even perhaps for lifetime sales:
Biggest complaint seems to be very repetitive game play/environments and AI not up to snuff.
On a personal note I've cancelled my pre-order (before I have to pay for the shipping) and will now hold a week or two before committing cash to this game)
If only to experience the unique world and amazing movement and combat, gamers owe it to themselves to try Ubisoft’s big holiday release. Its stunning visual style, high concept story, and wildly open level design are like nothing else, even if too much repetition begins to frustrate in the later hours. It’s a game people will still be talking about five years from now. Come to think of it, they may have a lot more to talk about by then.
n a post on his personal blog, Steven Barnes has announced that his planned trilogy of books based off of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed have been canned. According to Barnes, descendants of the original Ismaili Hashashim sect visited Ubisoft and demanded their ancestors be treated with more respect.
Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced its highly anticipated Assassin's Creed video game has gone "gold” and is set to launch in North America on November 13, 2007. The title is one of the most anticipated games for the holiday season, arriving on the PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360
@Laoldar, Ya I am fully aware of its heritage. I bought Sands of Time the day it released, but never played it for more than a few hours, not because I didn't like it (I always had feelings for PoP the original, and loved Out of this World (Another World in EU) & Flashback, and a little Abes Oddysey, but because I had other games I wanted to play.
The whole interaction with NPC's didn't win me over, though it is good. I was looking for more about the game as a whole, and it was the platforming and NPCs that I always heard about. And they always showed how great it was running around and through NPCs in the environment, but I was looking for how much further that goes and never saw them elaborate. Though I probably should take a look at the most recent videos I gander.
Is it Jerusalem that is the city in the game? I heard it's completely modeled on how it actually was back then.
I'm waiting for reviews, not just the scores, but what they say about the game. I'll get it when its price is reduced, not because its "bad" or anything, but because other games interest me more.
It's seen as the spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia "Sands of Time" trilogy...AMAZING platformers that were very fun to play. I think that people are looking forward to having the ability to tackle missions in a non-linear fashion and being able to explore an ancient city. Plus the AI was very impressive in early demos (blending in with NPCs, crowd reaction to what you do, etc).
Unfortunately, it'll likely end up being a game that gets rave reviews but won't sell extremely well.
@welshbloke, I never had much interest in this game, even now, I did not understand why everyone loves it so much. However, I don't think it's overhyped in general. While the SE predictions for lifetime sales of the 360 and PS3 versions both appear to be pretty accurate. Though I could see a potential for the game to not turn out as good as it is hyped to be. Only time will tell.
