We're not terrifically interested in paying top dollar for what is tantamount to a glorified demo, so we aren't that excited for the April 17 release of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. But, as Gary Coleman taught us, it takes diff'rent strokes to move the world, so far be it from us to withhold the torrent of GT5P news we were bombarded with this morning.

Sony Computer Entertainment has announced that shipments for the Gran Turismo series have broken through the 50 million mark. According to website Dengeki Online and translated by MCV, the figures encompass the seven titles released under the Gran Turismo brand since the PSOne original released in 1997. According to Sony's figures, Gran Turismo 4 has sold over 10 million copies itself, with the latest release, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, already shifting over 2.23 million copies worldwide.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is set to weigh in at 1870MB on PlayStation Network when it goes on sale next Thursday, 27th March. That's how big the game was when we downloaded it to put together our exclusive review of the PAL version, and Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that it will be the same when the game goes live on the PlayStation 3 Store.
