MS lowered Vista req. so Intel could sell incompatible chips

engadget - February 28, 2008

Submitted by Animate (241) at 8:22PM PST on February 28, 2008

"Although Intel's 915 chipset was initially rejected as incompatible with Vista, MS execs flatly admit that "In the end, we lowered the requirements to help Intel make their quarterly earnings so they could continue to sell motherboards with the 915 graphics embedded" and "We are caving to Intel. We worked the last 18 months to drive the UI experience and we are giving this up."

Xbox Live Arcade: Screwing the Little Guy

If an independent developer can manage to keep their 70%, Microsoft has a back door approach to choke their bottom line. MS can choose at their discretion to "market" any XBLA title and take an additional 30% cut of the profits. Some foreign XBLA developers don't even realize that they are getting screwed by Microsoft on the point-to-dollar exchange rate. This entire process exists to basically nickel and dime every possible drop of profit from the independent developers.

Microsoft XNA's Next Step: Community Arcade

1ip.com - December 13, 2007

Submitted by CrAzZyYmAn (606) at 12:52PM PST on December 14, 2007

Microsoft XNA General Manager Chris Satchell had only hatched two-thirds of his plan for XNA Game Studio. First, there was XNA Game Studio 1.0, which brought a streamlined and completely free toolset for independent game creators. Then, XNA Game Studio 2.0, which launched this week, incorporated Xbox Live's greatest features, including matchmaking support. The final, and arguably most important step, is bringing that full circle with what's currently being dubbed "Community Arcade."
