Viacom Inc. and Microsoft Corp. today announced a five-year, $500-million strategic partnership under which Viacom will supply Microsoft with movies, videos and games, and Microsoft will sell advertising for Viacom's Internet sites.

Microsoft just announced plans to bridge the gap between the XNA development community with the Xbox Live community by allowing XNA games to be tested, tried and shared over Xbox Live. This new service will be rolled out "soon" and will allow Live members to access, rate, review and play new community created XNA Arcade games which will greatly increase the XBLA's current library.

Microsoft Entertainment Posts $130 million Loss in Q4 2009

Microsoft's entertainment division shipped 1.2 million Xbox 360s in the quarter, and posted a $130 million loss on $1.2 billion in revenue. Xbox 360 hardware shipments were 1.2M for the quarter, a slight drop from 1.3M in the same quarter last year. The operating result for the entertainment division was a loss of $130 million on revenue of $1.19 billion, compared to a loss of $171 million on revenue of $1.59 billion in Q4 2008. Microsoft has shipped 31.4m Xbox 360s worldwide till June 2009.

Microsoft promotes Shane Kim, Phil Spencer filling the gap

Microsoft Game Studios has revealed to GamesIndustry.biz that Shane Kim will be moving to take up the newly-created position of corporate VP of strategy and business development for Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment business. He will be replaced by Phil Spencer, who was previously head of MGS in Europe.

Echoing N+ developer Metanet's recent comments concerning what does and does not make it to the service, 5pb spoke out about similar frustrations in the latest issue of Famitsu, revealing that both of its ports of DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou Black Label X and Ketsui X had been summarily rejected for release over XBLA, with Microsoft claiming that it's "going to cut down on faithful arcade ports."

Microsoft owes the success of its Zoo Tycoon franchise to Blue Fang. But this studio is yet another to depart the Microsoft fold. Today, THQ announced it will publish the next series of games from Blue Fang for the PC and Nintendo Wii and DS platforms. Blue Fang was a third-party developer but was a very big part of Microsoft�s offerings for the kids market. Microsoft, meanwhile, is down to five internal studios.
