XBL Video Store skewing substantially to HD

The UK's Xbox Live Video Store, launched last December, has been performing "above expectations" since then, and Microsoft internal indications are that the high definition content on offer is more popular than the standard definition content. That's according to the UK Xbox Live marketing manager, Robin Burrowes, talking to GamesIndustry.biz in an interview today

Revenue in the games division responsibile for the Xbox 360 rose 3.1 percent to USD 3.06 billion - much better than Microsoft's forecast of an 8 per cent decline.

RUMOR: Halo For Download On The XBLA?

Apparently Microsoft is planning to release Xbox games for download Via the Xbox Live Arcade. According to a now-removed article over at CVG, MS is planning to offer some of the greatest games from the Xbox on Xbox Live for download. These include Halo, Fable, Fahrenheit, Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex and Burnout 3.

A few weeks ago, Peter Moore left Microsoft for EA Sports, while former EA president Don Mattrick stepped in to fill the lovable Brit's shoes. At the time, rumors began buzzing that Microsoft and EA were up to something. Is there any truth to that rumor? I don't know. What I DO know, is that another EA executive has just landed at Microsoft. John Schappert, most recently executive vice president at EA, will be joining Microsoft in a new position as the corporate vice president of LIVE, software and services.

Xbox Live Price Increase Coming November 1

According to a post on Major Nelson's blog, after eight years' of Xbox Live at the $50 a year price point, the service is finally seeing a price hike. Starting on November 1, a year Gold subscription to Xbox Live will run $59.99, versus the current price of $49.99. One month subscriptions will jump from $7.99 to $9.99, while three month subs will rise from $19.99 to $24.99.

Peter Molyniex Now Director of MS European Studios

Peter Molyneux, the designer between the Fable franchise, has been given a promotion: Creative Director of European studios at Microsoft Games Studios. In his new role, the game designer will oversee the creative direction of fellow UK Microsoft studio Rare, as well as other European external projects. He will continue to be based in the Lionhead offices.

Microsoft Hiring for Peter Jackson's Halo Game

There hasn't been much news on it lately, but it seems Peter Jackson's Halo videogame project is, in fact, still alive. MTV Multiplayer picked up on a few job listings on Microsoft's careers page looking to add members to Jackson's development team, including a Creative Director, Producer, and Game Engineers.

As Epic’s management team heads west for the annual Game Developers Conference in San Francisco this week, GamePro magazine is predicting that Microsoft will buy the fast-growing game technology firm. “Microsoft will buy Epic Games for $1 billion this summer,” wrote Travis Moses, assistant editor at GamePro, in the magazine’s new issue.
