New $99 PS2 Model To Debut In 2008

kotaku - November 2, 2007

Submitted by pilias_simber (122) at 5:04AM PST on November 2, 2007

Expect a new PS2 model to hit the US in 2008. Expect it to cost $99, and expect it to sell like hotcakes. That's the news coming out of British trade site MCV, who are also saying the new "compact" model will, unlike the slim PSTwo, be internally-powered, allowing Sony to cut manufacturing costs and thus save a bit of cash.

Sonys Tretton criticizes approach of rival platform holders

Games Industry - July 4, 2007

Submitted by Making_Waves (706) at 11:24AM PST on July 4, 2007

Says SCEA won't "bribe" developers for exclusivity SCEA boss Jack Tretton has criticised what he described as the "different approach" of rival platform holders, stating that Sony won't "bribe" developers to make PS3 exclusives. Speaking in the latest issue of PSM magazine Tretton said, "Microsoft is too dependent upon the third-party community, and Nintendo is too dependent upon first-party. We like to feel that we got a pretty good mix. "We have a very different approach to exclusives than some of our competitors," he continued.
