Apple is the first to master a pair of tricks that have made Nintendo's latest products so compelling--a touch-screen interface and the ability to pick up on motion. Apple has crammed both capabilities into its iPhone and iPod Touch.

if Nintendo moved toward older players, it would have a crippling effect on the industry as a whole and their contribution would be difficult– if not impossible– to replace. ;;; Nintendo gives to the gaming community in a way no other publisher can by bringing up the future consumers of "mature" titles. Without them it is questionable how many would ever come to the hobby. ;;; Nintendo's contribution is best measured in how they help nurture the future of that market.

An analyst in Japan has estimated the profit that each Wii sold generates in Japan, the U.S. and Europe. With currency conversions factored in, the Wii makes the most money in Europe ($74 each), followed by the U.S. ($49) and Japan ($13).

For the most recent quarter, Nintendo shipped 2.23m Wiis and 5.97m DS systems (all models). Shipment figures through June bring Wii to 52.62m worldwide, with DS at 107.75m. Wii game shipments were 31.07m for the quarter, while DS game shipments were 29.09m. Through June 2009, 384.09m Wii games have been shipped worldwide. This is in addition to 596m DS games.

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed that the company sold around 800,000 Wii consoles in the US over the Thanksgiving weekend - more than double the 350,000 number from last year.
