Boom Blox Sells 450K

Kotaku - July 29, 2008

Submitted by lstormy10 (294) at 5:59PM PST on July 29, 2008

"When Boom Blox didn't explode at retail during its first month on the market — selling some 60,000 copies in the United States in May — it was written off by some as a "dud." Since launch, Boom Blox has sold over 450,000 copies, meeting EA's expectations, according to CFO Eric Brown. EA execs didn't specify whether those figures were worldwide or not, but we'll assume they are for now."

"Word on the street is that key members of Team Ninja -- as many as three dozen or more -- are headed out the door as well, but that's not all. It seems that each one of the soon to be ex-ninjas will be serving Tecmo with a class-action lawsuit in regards to unpaid bonuses for completed games."

Wii Third-Party Struggles Highlighted by May NPD

Gamedaily - June 13, 2008

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 3:28AM PST on June 14, 2008

If you're a third party making a game for Wii, you better have a solid plan of attack. Even Boom Blox from EA and Steven Spielberg, which got very positive reviews (8.6 on GameRankings), was nowhere to be seen in the top 20 and only number nine in the Wii's top 10 chart. The NPD Group has just told us that Boom Blox sold a paltry 60K units and was ranked #25 for the month of May. We are more than surprised by this lackluster performance.
