Valve: "We're not PS3 developers"

CVG - May 5, 2008

Submitted by Rol83 (481) at 6:05AM PST on May 5, 2008

Lombardi told CVG, "We're not PS3 developers - we're doing PC and 360 like with Orange Box. EA came to us and said 'Wow, Orange box was an incredible project, can we do a PS3 version?'...If you mention a new Half-Life, people want to make as many versions of it as possible. If Left 4 Dead is big, then we may see a PS3 version later, or if and when we do a sequel, people may be more interested in that."

"What we've heard anecdotally from our retail partners is that the Xbox 360 version of the game is outselling the PS3 version by a margin of two-to-one," said Aaron Greenberg, director of product management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live during an interview Thursday. "That mirrors what we saw with pre-orders, but it continues to hold true at retail, at least for the first couple of days. It's a great sign."

We believe software sales benefited from several strong new title releases, catalog sales of titles such as Call of Duty (ATVI) and Rock Band (MTV/ERTS), the shift of the Easter holiday into March (from April last year), earlier spring breaks, and improving PS3 hardware sales.”

Kotaku - March 27, 2008

Capcom's Christian Svensson: "The sales life cycle of a product is shrinking. If a game undersells its first month at retail, it's finished at retail. Often, though, it's quicker: if a game underperforms its first week, it is more than likely 'dead on arrival'."
