Fewer want to upgrade, so MS will focus on current Xbox

newstribune - January 11, 2009

Submitted by welshbloke (60) at 6:10AM PST on January 11, 2009

Microsoft Corp. will rely on its Xbox 360 game console for longer than the previous version because it’s getting harder to get consumers to upgrade, the head of the company’s entertainment unit said. The software maker will focus on improving the Xbox’s games and features rather than rushing to introduce a new model, President Robbie Bach said Wednesday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The Xbox 360 started selling in 2005, replacing the original Xbox, which debuted in 2001.

Microsoft: Supply constraints harmed February sales

Gamesindustry - March 13, 2008

Microsoft has blamed supply issues for the Xbox 360 being outsold in February by Sony's PlayStation 3. Ahead of the official US sales figures from NPD today, the company has pre-empted the data which is likely to show that for the second month in a row the PS3 is enjoying greater sales in the key territory.
