NYTimes game of the year

joystiq - December 23, 2007

Submitted by ixaarii (444) at 6:07PM PST on December 23, 2007

"The NYT bestowed Mass Effect with the honor for its "focus on character development, personal growth and moral tension, all fueled by a graphics system created to evoke emotional empathy." Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was honored for being the shining star on the PS3 and BioShock was named the "best newcomer." There's also digs at Halo 3 and Super Mario Galaxy for being "unambitious representations of the state of the art." "

BioWare Confirms Trilogy Is Not Xbox 360 Exclusive

Shacknews - July 22, 2008

Submitted by Kentor (807) at 4:24PM PST on July 22, 2008

Despite the first Mass Effect being billed as an Xbox 360 exclusive, famed developed BioWare tells Joystiq that it has "never confirmed any plans of Mass Effect exclusivity for the trilogy." Though the sci-fi action-RPG later appeared on PC, the title is still considered an Xbox 360 exclusive in terms of the console market--meaning it has not appeared on rival consoles PlayStation 3 or Wii.

We've been rabidly anticipating Mass Effect for such a long time now, it's a relief to learn that, according to Game Informer at least, we haven't been wasting our energy. In their forthcoming November issue, the magazine awarded the game a 9.75, just a quarter-point shy of its highest honor.

Target NOT pulling Mass Effect

JoyStiq - February 12, 2008

Submitted by deftangel (291) at 3:48PM PST on February 12, 2008

After making some calls to local Targets, none of whom had a problem ringing the game up on their registers, we followed up with Target Corporate Communications. A Target spokesperson got back to us this afternoon after double checking with all the right folks and told us unequivocally, "This is just a rumor. There are no plans to remove this game, it's available at Target stores and Target.com."

Mass Effect the best of a mixed bunch

guardian - November 23, 2007

Submitted by joeyrules (917) at 12:58PM PST on November 23, 2007

Greg Howson of The Guardian (UK) says the exploration aspect of Mass Effect feels a little undercooked, the enemy AI is erratic and there are framerate issues, but he thinks the flawed epic deserves a wide audience. He recommends Mass Effect over Mario & Sonic at the Olympics and Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, which also come out in the UK on the same day. He also briefly covers the other two titles.
