GamesIndustry - June 5, 2008

Submitted by welshbloke (60) at 7:26AM PST on June 5, 2008

Electronic Arts has stopped work on the PlayStation 3 version of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3. The title was officially unveiled in February this year, and marked the return of the popular RTS franchise after seven years. No reason has been given for the move, reports our sister site Eurogamer.net. The title is still due for release on Xbox 360 and PC this autumn. (That is it nothing more to read).

Furukawa Electric exhibited the “third generation” PS3 heat sink at Techno-Frontier 2008 in Japan earlier this month, reports TechOn. The heat sink is characterized by its small size, light weight and low cost. The report says that separate heat sinks will for the first time be used to cool the PS3’s Cell microprocessor and RSX graphics chips. The separate heat sinks will weigh in at about 350g in total, in comparison to 700g and 500g for the first and second designs used in PS3s.

Rumor Playstation Store Overhaul in April

Kotaku - February 26, 2008

Submitted by Animate (241) at 1:25PM PST on February 26, 2008

"PlayStation Store may finally get a graphical user interface overhaul, one planned to arrive alongside Gran Turismo 5 Prologue on April 15. The revamp of the PlayStation Store is said to give it a look more in tune with the SingStore, pictured above, which is already accessible from the PlayStation 3 version of SingStar. Details were light on the change, but beyond a coat of paint, word was that navigation would change to a series of icons running along the bottom of the interface."

LucasArts: baseline platform is PS3

GameSpot - February 20, 2008

Submitted by Refreshment (333) at 5:50AM PST on February 23, 2008

"Though its forthcoming game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, started development on the Xbox 360, LucasArts' "new baseline" will be Sony's console. "Our next project will use the PS3 as the baseline, and then apply that to the Xbox 360," said Haden Blackman, project lead for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. After some hard-learned lessons in developing The Force Unleashed, LucasArts now has a strategy for future multiplatform titles: develop the PS3 version first. "

PS3 DivX Tested. 360's is Better!

gizmodo - December 18, 2007

Submitted by Bleezy (741) at 12:39AM PST on December 18, 2007

The PlayStation 3 2.10 update is here, bringing with it not only Blu-ray Profile 1.1 support (which adds picture in picture among other things), but DivX and WMV playback as well. Unfortunately, DivX support means DivX support, and doesn't include XviD as some of us hoped. We threw our normal battery of files at our PS3, and came to the conclusion that it's not quite as good as the Xbox 360 implementation. Here are our notes.
