Wii Titles Must Sell 1 Million to Make Money

Joystiq/Egmer - March 31, 2009

Submitted by PhilHarrision (424) at 12:26PM PST on March 31, 2009

Low-cost games aren't the ones sitting in the Wii rack at your local retailer. Even a Wii game needs to sell at least one million units to be profitable, by Reggie Fils-Aime's estimates. (And Only 16 out of 486 Wii games have crossed that threshold as of March 1, by NPD estimates.)

According to NPD information obtained from Microsoft by GamesIndustry.biz, that Nintendo claim appears to be wrong: Third party sales for X360 since launch of the Wii and PS3 is 54,065,728 units, almost double Wii's 33,394,311 units. Since November 2006, X360 have 217,252 units per title, PS3 at 156,065 units and the Wii at 132,517 units.

Wii's 3rd parties tracking ahead of both PS3 and 360

Kotaku - August 8, 2008

Nintendo have provided us with a handy line graph showing off the success that third parties have had on its console. It's devoid of confusing first-party data, which mucks up the numbers, and "demonstrates that third parties on Wii are tracking ahead of both PS3 and 360." On display are the first 19 months of each console's lifecycle. That impressive upward tick on the blue line — the Wii line — starts its ascent right around the time that Guitar Hero III made its way to the Wii platform.

Megaman 9 EXCLUSIVE on WiiWare

ArsTechnica - July 1, 2008

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 6:23AM PST on July 2, 2008

Previously, Capcom reveal that Megaman 9 is going to be released as WiiWare. Later on, Capcom tell Arstehnica to let them know that the game is currently slated "for WiiWare only" and that the information indicating otherwise in the E3 roster was a mistake on its part. So, Megaman 9 is NOT going to show up on XBLA and PSN.
