"I think America has always been better at creating unique products," says Miyamoto. "In Japan, the technology required to create videogames tends to be concentrated in the bigger corporations. Here in the United States, you have these independent developers who have managed to get the skills and the training and the development, and also have managed to get access to the technology and the hardware needed to develop it.

Nintendo: Average Wii Sits on Shelf for Just an Hour

Wired - April 23, 2008

Submitted by lstormy10 (294) at 8:32PM PST on April 23, 2008

"Wii consoles, on average, sit on the shelves for just an hour before they are purchased. That stat comes straight from Reggie Fils-Aime. Fils-Aime [also] noted that North America gets about 40 percent of the 1.8 million Wii consoles Nintendo manufactures every month. The Americas are the only territory in which supply and demand are out of whack for Wii: Fils-Aime said you can walk into stores in Japan and Europe and find Wii on shelves."

We're sure many are wondering what's next from Treasure, the developer behind Ikaruga and other classics. CNET Japan got the answer in a recent interview with Treasure president Masato Maegawa. In the interview, Maegawa revealed that the studio is working on 2 titles for the Wii. While he wouldn't get too specific, he did reveal that the 2 games are 3D titles, rather than the 2D for which the company is known. He also hinted that his team is putting the special features of the Wiimote to use.
