1UP Previews: Gran Turismo 5: Prologue

1up - December 19, 2007

The real, full Gran Turismo 5 is due out Holiday 2008, at best, so to please the legion of GT fans (or cash in shamelessly, depending on your point of view), Sony CEJ just released Gran Turismo 5: Prologue in Japan. Obligatory stats: 37 cars, 5 tracks, $40 via Japanese PSN or about $50 if you import a disk (PS3 is region-free, so guess your way through the menus and you can play with little difficulty)."

Gran Turismo 5: Searching for Clues

IGN - June 9, 2009

July 9, 2009 - It's been a long time coming, but E3 2009 provided us with our first real look at Gran Turismo 5 in the form of a trailer. While GT5: Prologue gave us little hints at what we can expect from the final game, it's become clear after seeing the trailer that Prologue didn't even scratch the surface of what we can expect from GT5's release.

Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital and creator and producer of the Gran Turismo series, has apparently said that they are are still in talks with with some car makers, including Ferrari, to allow their cars to be subjected to crash damage in the game. The head of 'Ferrari Challenge' developer 'System 3' said earlier this year that convincing Ferrari to put damage on the cars was a "big challenge".

From the sun shining off of the cars in replays to the immense amount of details to the cars, there’s not a moment when seeing the replays that you don’t find some amazing detail that you didn’t notice before. You may notice the new in-car view. Not only is the dashboard and rear window highly-detailed, you can get a quick look behind you through the rear-view mirror or by tapping the look-back button to see who’s behind you through the car’s actual rear window, back seat and all.

While the PlayStation 3 Gran Turismo 5 console bundle officially launched alongside the game itself last month, severe demand has meant that many retailers have been unable to maintain supply. That time has now passed, as Electronic Theatre has been informed that subsequent shipments have resulted in the bundle now being on general availability at retailers throughout Europe.
