Final Fantasy XIII will launch in North America and Europe on March 9, 2010, just a few months after it debuts in Japan and nearly four years after it was originally announced. Since that time, Square Enix's flagship role-playing game has become a multiplatform project -- the English version will debut on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously -- as well as the first part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series. It's also no longer the highest-numbered Final Fantasy game.

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada predicts FFXIII to sell 6 million copies worldwide. Dragon Quest IX (DS) has sold 4 million copies in Japan since July. Note: Currently the simExchange is forecasting 9 million copies of FFXIII across PS3 and Xbox 360.

Dunno! But we do know it's sure hard to delay a game that isn't dated. Square Enix hasn't said much about the game — which is, in a way, good, because we'd rather have them working on it than talking about working on it. Last we heard, Square Enix was smashing rumors that the game would be out this year.

Though Final Fantasy XIII didn't release in the West until this week, Square Enix has already shipped five million copies of the highly anticipated RPG worldwide. The publisher shipped three million of the game's PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 copies to North America, Europe, and Australia.

We hate to spoil your dependable Sunday evening treat, but we thought the pointy-haired RPG enthusiasts amongst you would want to hear a remarkable Squeenidos statistic -- in its launch week, the Blu-ray version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, which contains a demo for Final Fantasy XIII, sold 274,774 units in Japan. We can't wait to see how well Advent Children Totally Completer fares.

The deal is particularly enticing for Square Enix, because the Japanese publisher is making a concerted effort to increase its success in North America and Europe. While Final Fantasy is a heavy-hitting franchise around the world, Square Enix has traditionally lacked broadly appealing action games like Eidos' Tomb Raider and Hitman franchises.

Square Enix announced that it will bundle a demo version of FFXIII with the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII Advent Children & new footage of Versus XIII and Agito XIII. Advent Children Complete, as the Blu-ray version is called, hits JA in March 2009. SE is also planning a hardware bundle that combines it (& the FFXIII demo disc) with the PlayStation 3. The full Japanese release for FFXIII is officially set for 2009, Square Enix also confirmed for the first time today.
