IGN Reviews The Orange Box for PS3 [Score: 8.4/10]

ps3.ign.com - December 11, 2007

Certainly, Valve established itself in a number of ways when it originally released Half-Life many years ago. Not only did it create refined and creative gameplay mechanics that inspired a number of other developers in the years that followed, but Valve also told a very interesting, admittedly intense story. Perhaps more than that, they told it well. Extremely well.

The Orange Box (PS3) Review

kotaku - December 3, 2007

Submitted by Bleezy (741) at 11:19PM PST on December 3, 2007

To put it bluntly, The Orange Box for the PS3 simply the least impressive release of the three, across the board, strongly outperformed by its Xbox 360 and PC counterparts. Those with a choice, who for some reason may have waited until now to pick up the collection, should look to the non-PlayStation 3 editions of the game if they can. Those who do will enjoy a smoother experience and have access to each platforms' version of Achievements.

"Along with the new class-based achievements they start rolling out next update, each class will get a pair of unlockable weapons that have the potential to change how they are played." Again, this is for PC, but PS3 and Xbox 360 could follow suit.

1UP previews The Orange Box for the PS3

In an interview earlier this year, Valve Software founder Gabe Newell referred to PlayStation 3 as "a waste of everybody's time." This attitude shows in the development structure of The Orange Box. While the PC and Xbox 360 versions were handled by Valve, the PS3 port was handed off to an internal team at EA.

In a new light after the recent news of severe problems with the PS3 version, Kotaku revisits the subject based on impressions from IGN and Gamespy saying things don't appear to be as bad as initially portrayed and that the game is still a worthy PS3 holiday addition.
