We've known for sometime that it's imminent, but Activision has finally pinned down a solid release date for the console versions of last year's epic shooter Quake Wars: Enemy Territory, due to hit both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 30.

This could well be something rare - a console port we like better than the PC original. As well as being a near-perfect conversion in graphics, AI and feature-set terms, the tweaks introduced for console players look like they're actually going to improve the underlying game. Look forward to waging war on the Strogg (or on the pitiful human wretches) in the coming months.

Quake Wars 360 Review: C+

1UP have reviewed the Xbox 360 version of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. The conclusion is that the game is not quite as polished as the PC version. In particular, several technical flaws are said to mar the game experience and break the crucial suspension of disbelief.

Not quite ready to take back the home front. 6.1/10

If you’ve already spent hours going up against either the Strogg or GDF on your computer then there’s really no reason to venture back into the battle on Xbox 360. If you haven’t played Quake Wars yet, well there’s really nothing to recommend here that isn’t done better (and at a cheaper price tag) on the PC.

Activision and id Software made the call to TeamXbox recently with an invitation to get a fresh peek at the Xbox 360 version of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, even giving us a chance to play it for a while. We jumped at the opportunity, getting a gameplay session with it earlier this week, and here’s what we saw.

It's Battlefield 2 with a flavour that only id Software could add, namely brilliant sci-fi weapons and game play so blisteringly fast that you hardly have time to blink.

Enemy Territory: Quake Wars Impressions

Kotaku - July 3, 2007

"Activision was one of the many companies showing off their E3 wares at last month's gathering of Game Critic judges in Santa Monica. While typically the stuff we saw out there is under embargo until next week, Activision made an exception for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, lifting the embargo on the short demonstration today. From what I saw of the playthrough, the game is at its heart, of course, Enemy Territory. That is to say, it doesn't appear that Splash Damage reinvented the wheel when they decided to make an Enemy Territory game set in the world of Quake. Which is a good thing."

Gamers hear the name Quake and immediate figure it'll be a high-intensity shooter spread across large levels-battles that involve a lot of dying and respawning, alternating with finding guns, ammo, armor and health. With Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, though, Activision and id Software have taken a slightly different turn.
