With Activision-Blizzard's blessing, work on the mod formerly known as World of Starcraft continues, and today brings us a new gameplay trailer of Starcraft Universe in action. Created by Ryan Winzen and a team of modders using the Starcraft II map editor, Starcraft Universe transforms Blizzard's RTS into an MMORPG.

According to China's Ministry of Culture, Activision-Blizzard's real time strategy game Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty has passed the Ministry's content approval process.

On the eve of the release of one of the most anticipated video games in history, it should come as no surprise that Blizzard's title has broken 800,000 pre-orders. While Activision Blizzard can no doubt already be envisioning the padding to their bottom line for the fiscal year, gamers can't seem to wait to get their Zerg, Protoss or Terran on when StarCraft 2 lands into their hands come midnight and it certainly shows.

Though we put little stock in any date relating to pretty much any Blizzard game (except for "later",) Blizzard CEO Michael Morhaime just announced in an investor conference call that a beta of StarCraft II will be out this month! The game is currently on track for "mid-2010."

Blizzard's set up at Games Convention this year was identical to the last -- one half dedicated to World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the other to StarCraft II. What had changed, rather dramatically, was how StarCraft II played, with massively rebalanced Terran and Protoss forces, as well as the inclusion of a playable Zerg. Having spent considerable time with the Terran and Protoss at BlizzCon last year I thought it might be fun to take out my old favorite class for a spin.

StarCraft Universe, the "World of Starcraft" MMO project that touched off a tense week for the StarCraft II modding community back in January, has released the first trailer of gameplay from its alpha version. You get a wide look at a lot of features of the game in that four-minute trailer, above.

The current Starcraft 2 season, Season 2, will come to a close on Tuesday morning at 8AM EST to prepare for the launch of Season 3 on the morning of Tuesday the 19th of July. The third season will bring four new maps to the one-on-one map pool with the 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4 getting two new maps each. The one-on-one map pool refresh contains one long-game focused map, one quick-rush focused map, and two neutral-length maps.

...the NRG high performance PC gaming brand is holding Australia's first major Starcraft II competition, at the Intime Cybercafe, in Haymarket, Sydney. The competition will be for individuals and separately, for teams. It will take the form of two elimination days and a main event for the finalists.
