Starcraft is arguably the most popular game of all time, and certainly one of the most enduring. Will the sequel live up to the original? Blizzard certainly thinks so, which would explain why the developer has spent over $100 million on the project thus far, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Razer Starcraft II peripherals

engadget - June 18, 2010

Submitted by Zex_M19 (110) at 2:15PM PST on June 18, 2010

These Razer peripherals have been officially licensed and specifically designed to work with it, offering a lot more than a matching color scheme. The five-button Spectre mouse, for example, is especially lightweight to enable fast, twitchy motions, 5,600dpi resolution for accuracy and offers a three-way switch that enables adjustable resistance and bounce on the buttons -- a first.

Blizzard VP: Starcraft 2 Trilogy on the 3-year plan

Joystiq - October 13, 2008

Submitted by afsplat (130) at 7:41AM PST on October 13, 2008

Blizzard's Vice President of Game Design Rob Pardo wants us to think about Starcraft 2's two followups, containing the Zerg and Protoss single player campaigns, as expansion packs, so does that mean they won't contain as much gameplay as the Terran-based initial game? Plus, you'll have to wait at least whole year between "expansions." Said Pardo, "With any luck, it would be like a year for each successive one, but that's going to be a target date, that's not a promise."

No StarCraft 2 in 2007

1up - May 31, 2007

Submitted by MiniRagnarok (471) at 6:40PM PST on May 31, 2007

Rob Pardo vice president of game design at Blizzard: "I can give you the old Blizzard mantra of: 'It'll ship when it's ready,'" said Pardo, "but it's something that historically, we've learned to keep release dates really close to the vest. I think all game developers are extremely optimistic, and we used to give optimistic dates and we'd disappoint our fans when we didn't hit them. So now, I think we've just gotten more gun shy. The only thing I can give you [that's] concrete is it's not going to be this year. Some people were hoping, because of how advanced the game looks, that we'd have it out by Christmas, but that's definitely not happening."
