Cartoon-like visuals of this quality would've been the stuff of dreams - even cliché - a few years ago, but here's Sony's Ratchet & Clank Future looking like a Pixar film on PS3.

Ratchet & Clank games are always easy to like, and this one is no exception. Friendly and funny, with the wacky weaponry and varied gameplay that are the hallmarks of the series, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction hits all the Ratchet notes with a well-balanced mix of platforming and gunplay..

Ratchet And Clank Don't Start

"We recently discovered a bug on the US version of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction that some of you may encounter the first time you boot the game," Insomniac community manager James Stevenson told Shacknews. "With specific amounts of free space on your drive, you may see a screen that tells you have insufficient space to create game data even though there is plenty of free space on your drive."

In some senses, Insomniac does need a clip 'round the ear for doing very little to innovate the gameplay in any meaningful sense, but if you're happy to play through a wonderful high definition version of an old classic, put your money down - you won't be remotely disappointed.

Outtake: Seeing the game in action, it's easy to see why Ryan's excited. It seems that the only reason that Resistance was so unrelentingly brown was because Insomniac were saving all their colours for Ratchet & Clank - the rainbow palette looks like the result of an explosion in an Play-Doh factory

At first glance, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction isn't a huge departure from the five games that preceded it. Hands-on impressions from this year's E3 were overwhelmingly positive,

We don't know who said it first, but it's true: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It's an idea that Insomniac Games obviously believes, as the latest Ratchet & Clank isn't much different from any of the others in this cartoon-ish, platforming/shooting series. Though as we learned from a recent visit to its HQ, Insomniac obviously doesn't buy the idea that if it ain't broke, don't tweak it.
