Dark Sector given green light: march 25

Gamespot - March 5, 2008

Submitted by Refreshment (333) at 4:40AM PST on March 9, 2008

"It's impossible to mention Digital Extremes' sci-fi shooter Dark Sector without the obligatory reiteration that, yes, the game was technically the first announced title for what is now the current generation of consoles. D3Publisher has officially dimmed the lights, and Digital Extremes is at long last ready to release Dark Sector on March 25 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3."

Last preview: Classified as worthwhile

Worthplaying - March 3, 2008

Submitted by Refreshment (333) at 2:50AM PST on March 7, 2008

"After seeing Dark Sector in action, I can confidently say that it's come a long way since its inception, and the team behind it has taken all criticisms and used them to craft an excellent and original shooter. The violent satisfaction of shredding opponents with your glaive, coupled with a dark sci-fi storyline, is shaping up this title to be more than just a mindless firefight."

"The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 action title Dark Sector is the highest profile 'AAA'-aiming game thus far funded by Puzzle Quest publisher D3Publisher, and an absolutely key project of Canadian studio Digital Extremes, a company once best known for working with Epic Games on the Unreal series."

It’s been a little while since we looked at D3Publisher’s Dark Sector, which is being developed by veteran gamemaker Digital Extremes. Last week’s Game Developers Conference gave us a fresh look at the main single-player game, as well as an opportunity to try out the game’s multiplayer modes.

Dark Sector banned in Austrailia

GameSpot - February 14, 2008

Submitted by deftangel (291) at 2:58AM PST on February 14, 2008

Australia is well known for having a strict games rating regime, a fact that was demonstrated yet again today with the banning of another title. This time around, violent sci-fi shooter Dark Sector was refused classification by Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC), making it illegal to sell the game down under. The OFLC said it "contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 years to play".

All signs point to an average TPS. For a game that was touted to be the first "next gen" game before we knew what "next gen" was, I was hoping for more.

Eurogamer: First Impressions

Eurogamer - December 12, 2007

Dark Sector is unlikely to set the world alight. But if it can develop on the promise of its handful of diverting ideas, and recapture the dark, engrossing atmosphere of that black-and-white opening, it ought at the very least to be worth a look. If it doesn't run better in the final version, though, it won't even be worth that. So here's hoping that Digital Extremes can iron out the wrinkles in the couple of months it has left.

We love it when we unexpectedly get a chance to play a game after a demo presentation. That's exactly what happened today during our Leipzig Games Convention demo of Dark Sector, the upcoming third-person shooter from Digital Extremes.

During the demo of Dark Sector we saw at E3 we were given a glimpse of one of the boss monsters we'd face later in the game; a giant behemoth who tossed around buses as if they were made from polystyrene.
