Confirmed: Update allows PSP remote play of PS One titles

GamesIndustry - December 18, 2007

Submitted by Making_Waves (706) at 12:15PM PST on December 18, 2007

The recent PS3 and PSP system update comes with an unannounced feature - the ability to remotely play any PS One game on the PSP handheld. A PS3 2.10 firmware update was released in the US today, adding a voice changer feature to voice/video chat, DivX and VC-1 (WMV) codec support to video playback, and picture-in-picture features to Blu-ray disc playback. A PSP 3.80 firmware update was also released, adding Internet radio compatibility.

An interesting article on next-gen.biz arguing the return & growth of the PSP despite it's media shadow cast by the DS.

This info came about when the retailer this guy works for was low in stock for PSP units. So curiously, he inquired about it to the Head Office, and the answer?

GameStop PSP sales DOUBLED in April

GameDaily BIZ - May 23, 2007

Submitted by kspraydad (475) at 6:08PM PST on May 25, 2007

Contray to NPD indicating a 1.6% increase in sales, GameStop indicates sales have doubled for the PSP in their stores. Is this a case of NPD not extrapolating for Big Box stores correctly in the first month of a price drop?

EB Games Says Nothankyou To The PSPgo

Kotaku - September 22, 2009

Submitted by mrahaju (9) at 6:55AM PST on September 23, 2009

It's clear from speaking with staff (and from the absence of any mention of the PSPgo on EB's website) that Australia's largest specialist games retailer won't be stocking the handheld, despite a release date of next week, the console appears in EB's system only as "discontinued", and is not listed as an upcoming release.

New PSP Devkit hits the FCC

FCC Docs - October 27, 2008

Submitted by kspraydad (475) at 6:51AM PST on October 28, 2008

Note from Kspraydad: This is a bit of 'speculation' on my part...based on the FCC ID it certainly seems that this is PSP and not PS3 related. Question for developer types...is it normal to have a new devkit this late in the game or is this a possible PSP2 thing?

PSP and Monster Hunter Lead Japan

IGN - April 11, 2008

Submitted by Makidian (555) at 11:39AM PST on April 13, 2008

Despite a flood of new releases over the week, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G remained at the top of the Media Create Japanese software sales chart, and helped push the PSP hardware to another week of 100,000-plus sales. Over the week of 3/31 to 4/6, Monster Hunter sold 488,208 units, bringing its two week total to 1,369,000. Capcom recently announced that the game has shipped 1.5 million units. We wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement of two million shipped shortly.

CES 2008: What's next for PSP with Sony's John...

1up.com - January 7, 2008

Submitted by CrAzZyYmAn (606) at 11:33AM PST on January 8, 2008

Actually finding Sony's booth within the monstrosity that is CES 2008 is a task in and of itself, but after some desperate twists, turns and semi-politely asking a few friendly fellow attendees, 1UP tracked down Sony's expansive presence at the technological expo. There wasn't much of a gaming display at their booth, but PSP senior product manager John Koller was on-hand to answer some of our questions about the future of their handheld, and we think you'll be surprised at some his answers.
