"The GPS receiver for the Sony PSP is about to find its way out of Japan and into US gamers' hands. According to Sony's CES 2008 page, "Your PSP will provide 2D/3D locations, driving directions, POI's, and even downloadable city guides.""

Sony officially announces Skype on PSP Slim

Sony just announced the availability of Skype on PSP courtesy of a firmware update due later this month. It's Skype as usual: free calls between Skype users; SkypeOut to make calls to regular old phones; SkypeIn to receive calls on your PSP. There is one notable caveat however: Skype will only work on the PSP-2000 ie., PSP Slim.

"Sales of Sony's PSP have more than doubled in Japan, with the console selling 184,610 units for the week ended December 16, compared to 91,481 units the previous week. The boost in sales comes without any significant new PSP software releases during the period, with only three games for the handheld in the top fifty best-sellers."

If you are a European customer who purchased a PSP Go, you were given a voucher for your choice of three games. The problem is that many gamers use their PS 3 to download PSP content, and Sony locked the downloads down to whatever system customers use to grab the content. That means that if you used your PS 3 to download the games, you're out of luck. This isn't the only issue to hinder the PSP Go's momentum. The solution? There isn't one.

Sony to Offer Full PSP Games for Download

Sony announced today that two of its upcoming Japanese games will be available both through standard retail channels and via digital download. Yuusha no Kuse ni Namaikida or2 and Bleach Soul Carnival will be following the route taken by PS3 titles like Gran Turismo Prologue. Sony will offer a download version of the games date in with the retail versions, and will even give players who go the download route a discount.

Sony Japan announces free WiFi internet for PSPs

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has announced a partnership with the world's largest global WiFi community FON - to create a new service, PSP×FON. Under the partnership the two companies plan to roll out FON access points in the region for a free internet browser via the Sony PlayStation Portable.

The PSP has been out since 2005, but developers are only now beginning to realise what makes a good game for PSP, admits the PSP marketing boss. Talking of the recent good fortunes for PSP, Sony's John Koller said: "developers and publishers are now just starting to see what the keys to success are on the PSP.
