If there was any doubt that EA would continue to milk the lucrative cash cow that is Will Wright's Sims franchise, that doubt can now be officially expelled. EA has created an official page for the next title in the series -- titled, appropriately enough, The Sims 3.

The Sims 3 wants you to go outside (in the game)

We always found The Sims to be sort of depressing. While creating a virtual replica of your life may seem like an amusing activity at first, you -- like us -- may find the distant view through an LCD window to be both startling and uncomfortable. Yes, we can see our house from here. And we can see that it's an empty, meaningless shell bereft of human interaction outside of the occasional pizza delivery boy teleporting into the driveway.

The Sims 3 - Detailed review by CVG

CVG - March 19, 2008

"When we started work on The Sims 3," says Rod as he shows us an early prototype, "I had two directives for the Sims team. One: it's not going to work unless you can cross the street and see your neighbour's kids playing. And two: no more hamster cages." The hamster cage refers to the typical gamer complaint about The Sims: that it's sometimes nothing more than directing your chosen character from the bath, to the fridge, to the toilet.

The Sims 3 Getting Pushed Back?

Kotaku - January 26, 2009

According to Edge, Electronic Arts is "evaluating the launch window" of The Sims 3. Whether that means a formal delay for the next installment in EA's 100 million unit selling franchise is unclear, but its European release looks like it might be in danger of slipping. According to Edge, a number of overseas retailers are now listing the game as shipping in the first half of 2009, with the official Sims 3 site listing a "TBA" release date.

Gamespot has a hands on article on a nearly complete version of the game. Looks to be like the same but MORE from the Sims 2. Still, not the best selling PC game of all time for nothing I suppose.

...All told, The Sims 3 seems to offer a tremendous variety of different things for you to get wrapped up in, whether that be advancing along a career path, increasing a skill set, completing a collection, making friends, having romantic relationships, or working toward lifetime goals--and that's assuming you decide to play the game with more of a role-playing focus to try to develop a single character.
