Harmonix: No DLC for Rock Band Wii...Yet

Kotaku - March 24, 2008

Submitted by lstormy10 (294) at 1:05PM PST on March 24, 2008

"Regarding downloadable content: During Rock Band for the Wii development[,] Harmonix focused on making the core gameplay experience as solid and enjoyable as possible while tailoring it specifically to the strengths of the platform. However, because the Wii's online capabilities and potential have yet to be fully realized, we wanted to wait before we explored online functionality for Rock Band to ensure that players get the high-quality of online performance they've come to expect."

Interview: Harmonix on the Evolution of Rock Band (WII)

GameDaily - April 16, 2008

BIZ: Considering the incredible sales of the Wii I'm curious why Rock Band wasn't launched simultaneously on that platform along with the others because it seemed like a no brainier to have that right away from the start. GL: It was twofold. One, when we made the initial decisions about where to place our resources, [the success of the Wii] wasn't as clear as it became in retrospect and really for us, it was simply a matter of resources.

IGN - January 15, 2009

"According to data from the NPD group, the Wii version of Rock Band was the franchise's best-selling SKU last year with over a million units sold. The PS2 version was right behind it. The original Xbox 360 Rock Band came in at just under 800,000 units. Rock Band 2 on 360, available since September, sold just under 600,000 units." As IGN's headline points out, the Wii and PS2 versions of Rock Band had many features removed.

No character customization

Joystiq - March 24, 2008

Submitted by PyrosMagus (1734) at 11:15AM PST on March 25, 2008

If there is character creation, will there be Mii support when creating your Rock Band character? No, there will be no character creator. When developing Rock Band for the Wii platform, the primary focus was to make the core band gameplay experience as fun and solid for everyone... In tailoring Rock Band to the strengths of the Wii console, character creator unfortunately didn't make the cut.

Guitar Impressions

Not surprisingly, the axes look and feel like the peripherals that shipped with other versions of the game, save for a few Wii-specific buttons (a plus and a minus on the guitar's "knobs," for instance). But if you don't like how the Rock Band guitars feel and would rather use Activision's Guitar Hero III wireless guitar, too bad -- it doesn't seem to work with Rock Band for the Wii.
