EA today confirmed for GameSpot that it has scrapped plans to charge extra for the weapons included in the Gold Edition of the game. Instead, those who purchase the Gold Edition will receive the weapons out of the box, while all others will gain access to the weapons by ranking up their online personas to the maximum level.

EA charging for weapons in Bad Company Beta

xbox360fanboy - March 21, 2008

It appears that the Battlefield: Bad Company Beta lists individual weapons for sale via the XBLM. A total of ten weapons are locked that have text reading "Available for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace" next to them. The details of this are a bit shaky as of now however, as of those ten weapons, five weapons are listed as simply available for purchase, and five are listed as available in gold edition or for purchase.

Battlefield: Bad Company beta to start next week

Joystiq.com - March 20, 2008

The beta starts March 25 and continues until April 25. It will include one mode ("Gold Rush") and two maps. To get on the Beta basically you're either going to need to be a member of IGN's Founders Club or Insider service or pre-order the game at your local Gamestop and only the first 5,000 to preorder are going to be in on the month of action. Oh, and you're going to need to be playing on the 360, as the offer isn't extended to PS3 players.

When Crytek's spiritual successor to Far Cry was announced and demoed for the gaming press last year console gamers' hearts skipped a beat when they thought of the possibility that Crysis could one day make it into their homes and onto their next-gen system. Well ladies and gentleman, fear not, the Swedish game makers at DICE have created something that is completely console exclusive and will make you forget all about Cry… something or other.

Bad Company Hands-On Preview

With EA/DICE a little more than a month away from bringing Battlefield: Bad Company to stores, we had the opportunity to mess with the game's single-player campaign once more-and in what we expect is relatively final form. The tryout brought up some interesting points, but mainly showed us how fun and versatile the gameplay experience will be.

Nice Review

With its Frostbite engine, Dice has created a warzone that is almost completely destructible. Nooks and crannies that were once a safe haven in other shooters can be reduced to rubble with a well-placed tank shell or mortar strike. Battlefield Bad Company is the most fun, addictive shooter released so far this year. While far from perfect, the intense sandbox warfare is something that you have to experience. Dice calls it tactical destruction. We call it explosive fun.

Eurogamer Review 8/10

Once you've experienced the various highs and lows that Bad Company has to offer, it feels like an immensely polished, ambitious effort that will build up a strong following for all the right reasons. The single player portion, while never less than hugely entertaining, stops short of true greatness. The profound implications of a massively destructible environment make it a unique proposition in online gaming right now - albeit a riotous chaotic one"
