Proving that Nintendo is not running out of precious stones and minerals to name its games after, Pokemon Platinum has been revealed for -- shockingly -- the DS. Courtesy of good ol' Famitsu (the magazine that makes gamers everywhere think "I should learn Japanese"), there are even a few small images as well.

According to Enterbrain/Famitsu. This is a better performance in the same time period than this year's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, Smash Bros. Brawl or Dragon Quest V DS. And it surpasses NSMB as the best single-performing DS game in a sales week, despite having 2 days in the week due to its Saturday release. As far as DS games go, it's only behind the combined Diamond/Pearl.

Nintendo Japan formally announced today the next entry in the Pokemon series. The follow-up to Pokemon Diamond & Pearl will be titled Pokemon Platinum and will be released to Japan this Fall.Little is known about the sequel at the moment, although Nintendo is promising a number of new elements added to the Diamond & Pearl story, as well as a new form for Girathina, a Pokemon that appeared in the two predecessors.
