Epic Games' boss Mark Rein has stated that there is "no guarantee" Unreal Tournament 3 will make its November release on PC and PS3. To be fair all he has said currently is he will not commit to a November 2007 release date. Using a Duke Nukem forever style of development it will be ready when it is ready tactic to explain why this a 2007 date may be missed.

Cliflls Bleszinski, lead game designer over at Epic Games, has recently come under fire for saying that PC gaming is in a state of "disarray" right after the supposed poor sales of Unreal Tournament III..However, according to publisher Midway, Unreal Tournament III has managed to sell over 1 million units across the PC and PS3 platforms.

On PlayStation 3, you'll also be able to use the Sixaxis pad's tilt control to manoeuvre the hoverboard. It's actually one of a few control tweaks aimed at the PS3, where you'll also be able to control the Redeemer's all-powerful secondary-fire mode with Sixaxis, directing the round through the sky and into your opponent's face by tilting. Epic is paying a lot of attention to getting the PS3 version's dual-stick controls right too. "One of the big concerns is that controller is very different to the keyboard and mouse, so we want to make sure we have the best experience possible," Morris begins by explaining, "and one of the ways we've done that is to have the Gears of War team working day and night to get these controls up to what we would want." Also, "we want to make sure the single-player is a fantastic experience. What we've done is create a full-fledged single-player - it's got cut-scenes, storylines - we're calling it divergent storyline because you actually get to decision areas where you say hey, do I want to stick to this corporation or move onto that one, and so when you play through it a second time you're going to have different ways of playing the game." You'll also unlock things as you play through the bot-based single-player game that can be used to customize your character, online as well as off.

"This first-person shooter appears to be running quite well on the PlayStation 3, with plenty of graphical detail from top to bottom, all running at a good, firm frame rate. The demo station we saw was running a standard deathmatch against bots, allowing us to get a good feel for the controls.

How much that speaks to the narrowing gap between PC and console provides ample fodder for the broader debate that rages across the Net. While that's happening, Unreal Tournament 3 makes a strong argument that it belongs on PS3 regardless of its other venues.

Production is indeed proceeding apace, and the game is still roughly on track to be released on the PS3 in November, in accordance with Epic's previous statements

Unreal Tournament 3 topped the playstation 3 sales in the UK last week. It also came 9th on the overall software sales - that was including the pc sales.
