Eurogamer Review: 10/10

Eurogamer - November 5, 2007

"Super Mario Galaxy is an embarrassment. It's an embarrassment for platform games. It's an embarrassment for adventure games. It's an embarrassment for Nintendo and an embarrassment for the Wii. What have we all been playing at in the ten years since Super Mario 64 came out? This is what gaming ought to be like."

1UP Review 9.5/10

1UP - November 2, 2007

Submitted by Animate (241) at 3:48PM PST on November 2, 2007

"demonstrates the difference between a good game & a great game: attention to detail and reliable, consistent game rules. The worlds challenge the assumptions of a platformer, but the new rules always operate consistently. There are no cheap sections of memorization. Intuition, logic, and reactions win the day. Excellent reactions, mind you Galaxy is unforgiving at times, like the best classic Mario games. Anyone can beat Galaxy, but mastery demands genuine skill."

Between saving the princess, racing go karts, saving the princess, playing tennis, and of course, saving the princess, it's a wonder he has any free time at all. As Mario's adventures are among some of the finest videogames ever made, and Super Mario Galaxy is certainly no exception. But this time the stakes have been raised, not only has the princess been kidnapped, the entire universe is in danger.

Super Mario Galaxy begins with an atypically dramatic prologue, fireballs raining down from Bowser's flying cartoon clipper ships at night. Toad's are frantically trying to avoid being burned alive. It's heavy stuff. You soon move on to the real meat, introduced to the Lumas, a race of cutesy star people, and their "mama", Rosalina...
