Earlier this week ther were rumors indicating that the price of the Xbox 360 is to be reduced by $50. Now it seems as if further weight is added to these claims with the following Wal-Mart ad placing a price tag of $349 on the Xbox 360 premium. It doesn't look as if this was an error as the box also has a 'rollback' logo above it, indicating an official price cut.

They've also got Rockstar Presents: Table Tennis "bundled" in, and are claiming a $30 drop for the Elite and a $20 drop for the Core. Makes it $449/$349/$279.

No, a rollback does NOT mean going to an earlier price. A rollback is a blanket term for whenever a price is lowered (ie, from 5.96 to 4.23) but isn't on clearance.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 182 ]bids

Also, word on the digital grapevine is EB/Gamestop is dropping the trade in value on the 360 by $30. Either that means a price drop (which could carry to used consoles as well) or they're just getting way too many trade-ins. I'd lean to the former, myself.

Apparently, the "help center" has admitted a $50-$80 price drop over the three SKUs (leading to a $399/$349/$299 hierarchy) but won't say when beyond "soon". I think it's entirely possible it'll come the week of the 8th.

Rollbacks are usually done by Wal Mart, not the manufacturers of products. It could just be a store sale meant to reduce stock (if Wal Mart has too many 360 units due to channel stuffing, lowered demand, etc).
It could be an "official" price cut (as in all stores will feature it), but I would doubt it.

Well, the Wal Mart flyer was sketchy looking, but the other two look more legit. Yes, it now looks like an overall price cut...however, there is a chance that the other chains got wind of a competitor lowering their price as a sale and followed suit if it was leaked early enough. All it really takes is one major chain to lower a price and it goes across most stores due to various "lowest price guaranteed" claims.
I wonder if MS isn't making the official announcement on this yet in order to hopefully sell a few thousand more units (at the higher price) in the next couple weeks before this hits.
I wonder if the price cuts will affect official bundles out there...the local Wal Mart still has a few Forza 2 Premium systems.
