That's a global figure, by the way. 1.8 million. Divide that up amongst North America, Europe, Japan and everywhere else, and you get...oh dear.

As I said earlier, worldwide data was taken from VGchartz (hence the warning that it was a very rough estimate). I did so because reliable sources only cover a few markets and ignore others entirely. It’s generally all coming in by boat from China. It takes about 10 days on the water to get to Seattle, then it takes about another 10 days to get them out onto store shelves themselves. Good call, it at least has the "it takes 5 months to go into effect" line.
Some thoughts:
Available monthly numbers are still lower than 1.8 million. This either means that Our available sales data is about 28% inaccurate (entirely possible) or retailers aren't selling every unit they get in (again, possible but unlikely). Also, while he said that Nintendo is producing 1.8 million per month, he doesn't explicitly state they're all being shipped out. It's still possible that they've kept back a few hundred thousand for a few months in order to put out a big holiday shipment.
Also, they could be lowballing their shipments. Nintendo has a track record of lowering expectations when it comes to sales.

An article was already posted about how Nintendo will ship an extra 3.5 million units during the holidays (their sales estimates rose from 14 million to 17.5 million).
Also, he said production was 1.8 million per month, but even rough sales estimates from VGchartz leaves about 500,000 units unaccounted for (VERY rough estimate) this past month. Sorry didn't catch that. If you believe NPD they under track NA by about 10%. Well the Future dropped quite fast. I should put more money in something like that before I post. Like a rock. Well now the number is in the "reasonable" range for me.
