Actually, the Wii is ahead of the 360 by now, and Sony is farther behind than this article says. Nintendo counts sold systems(although to be fair, even if Nintendo counted shipped systems it'd be the same result) while Microsoft and Sony both count shipped systems. I don't think anyone remotely believes Sony has come close to selling out, which means they've got a large amount of systems they are claiming to have sold, that are sitting around.
Sony has fallen from greatness this generation, and they've fallen through ignorance of the gaming public, cockiness, and blatant overconfidence. It is their own fault they are so far behind, and things are looking very grim for the future of the PS3
