n less than four weeks Assassin's Creed recorded more than two and a half million units in sell-through sales worldwide, and is the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the US ever. Consequently, Ubisoft now forecasts that it will sell a minimum of five million units of the game in 2007-08 compared with its previous estimate of approximately three million.

Wasn't the 5 Million including PC and DS game? In that case the 3.5-3.7 Million seems a bit high. The ratio in Europe should be better for the PS3 then in america (3:1 in US aprox.). If not, your def. have a case.[ Oracle ] [ Level 21 ] [ Rank: 112 ]bids

i tend to go with anything that seems a good buy/sell. i brought jan wii for about 50dkp and sold when it reached 75, now its back down to 50.

ive gradually sold off my AC stocks when theyve reached a peak and levelled off, most of my remaining stock was sold earlier at 325 as i dont think that it will increase that quickly from now on. hardware imo is just people guessing at what they think it will total off at and i agree, if your good at day trading it and ride a bit of luck then you can make alot of money. personally im not online enough to day trade regularly enough to make it worthwhile and when i look at my returns % list atm on my long stocks im making very good profit, 20% and above on all. last month i increased my total amount by 60-70% or so, this month im going a bit slower at about 25% so far which is better than most so im happy with how im going atm.[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

Short selling is the best way to earn money, because at the first rumor many sell their stock, and people tend to exaggerate (and simExchange has a story of overestimating Wii and Nintendo DS and underestimating Xbox 360 software). Although I short sold Brawl at 127dkp and had to buy it back at 135dkp, just because common sense indicates there is no way it can reach over 10m because it was limiting my trading options.
As sonycowboy said, you need to fish good trades around. I short sold January Wii for 73k and bought it back for 59k. And would have gladly short sold Wiis at 190k and DS at 290k for December NPD, but I am already in red.[ Veteran ] [ Level 8 ] [ Rank: 1151 ]bids

As with anything else on the Exchange, making money is a matter of good buys and sells. How much of your AC stock is actual money? Have you sold any? What if Ubisoft says tomorrow "We messed up, we haven't sold as much as we thought", and revises their estimate down?
Hardware stocks tend to be much more volatile than individual game stocks; there are much bigger percentage moves in game stocks sometimes, but not often are there as large of dollar value moves. There's a lot of money to be made day-trading hardware stocks, if you can do it right. yet you have exactly the same problem with long stocks in hardware, if your going to limit yourself to just monthly hardware numbers your going to find it very hard to make any sort of money at all. You have to be diverse with your investments and prepared to buy whatever you think is cheap at the time, or short whatever is overpriced.
imo the worst thing you can trade is metacritic scores as if you buy at between 85-90 even if the title is unexpectedly spectacular and makes 93-98 its only about 10% profit maximum for a long investment and it can always go against you like assassins creed for example. now i got my limit of shares in AC on 360 the day ubisoft announced its sales figures and prjections for 200dkp each, theyve reached 325 today and thats over 60% profit, which is way more than you can achieve with hardware or metacritic monthlys.[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

While it is a good opportunity (if indeed it sold a million on December which I don't know, I am betting more on Mass Effect above 450k than lifetime here), I still think the best opportunities are in hardware.
As far as I know you cannot redeem long stock unless selling it. If you hoard stock for a monthly number, it is automatically sold at the end of the month. For long stock, however, you need to wait for the market to raise the price. And since you are not the only one waiting to sell, it becomes hard to spare the time and DKP until it gets to a nice number.[ Veteran ] [ Level 8 ] [ Rank: 1151 ]bids

I've been looking for some buying opportunities and this one looks good to me. We know that the 360 already has a good 2m+ right now with no question. ~1M in Nov NPD + Dec NPD + Strong European sales.
Ubisoft themselves raised the sales target to 5M just by the end of March 08, which we've got to assume give the 360 at least 3.5-3.7M units in sales.
And that's without platinum / discounted sales later which traditionally give a title a bump.

i think that their estimate of 5M by march might be a bit ambitious but i agree that the lifetime sales will surpass this figure easily. this is exactly why i bought up to my limit on both stocks when they made this announcement and they have not yet reached the proper value for the numbers to add up.[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

Ubisoft announces 5M to the financial community for March 08. This means they are pretty confident and 6M lifetime sounds like a minimum. We have 4,3M with Ps3+X360.

That goes against all available statistics. So far the spread for every cross-platform game is that between 360 and PS3, the 360 version sells better. Your meathod of judging command involves substitutes. You are right, there are fewer substitutes for AC on PS3 then on 360, but that is only one factor. The 360 has a much higher installed user base, so the number of people who could potentially purchas AC on 360 is higher. Basically, because of what you said, a greated percentage of PS3 oowners might purchas AC, and a lower percentage of owners on 360. But even if that were the case (and I don't believe it will be) you could still end up with a greater number of sales on the 360.[ Speaker ] [ Level 14 ] [ Rank: 810 ]bids
