  I believe that this (the DS passing the PS2 lifetime sales in Japan) is something that shows that the DS has the capability to become an even higher seller than the PS2 - meaning the DS has a really good chance of passing the PS2's lifetime sales globally (which are currently over the 120 million number). It all depends on how long the DS is on the market and whether software publishers/developers can continue to make quality games for the system - something that does not look like is going to be a problem for at least 2008.

  "Alongside their regular commentary on the week's charts, Japanese tracking company Media Create have slipped in a little factoid. Namely, that in Japan the DS, which launched in 2004, has now outsold the PlayStation 2."
