Company executives may have already shot the notion down, but there's more to the story. With HD DVD, Microsoft had the opportunity to inject its own technology into the emerging high-definition video market. But now that the HD disc war is over, the company still has a viable group of HD video assets, including HDi and Xbox Live Marketplace.

I was going by the tone of your original post portraying HDi as a con to HD-DVD.
The main argument againt Blu-Ray for the 360 is obviously that Microsoft would rather have people paying money to use their digital distribution services rather than using optical media in the form of Blu-Ray. The possible usage of HDi in their digital distributed media would be more of a supporting reasoning to the main reason. It will be more like a bullet point on the digital distro service versus allowing for a Blu-Ray drive.
