There's nothing in the way of official confirmation at the moment, but tech website The Inquirer reports that "well-placed sources" are telling it that Google will be purchasing Valve "any second now." As the site points out, Google is likely less motivated by Valve's game development than its nigh-ubiquitous content distribution platform, Steam.

It really is a good blog, I have read it on occasion.
I think Google and Valve is a good fit. While the website I linked in the article wreaks of amateur speculation, Google has the available funds to snag an arguably struggling but definitely quality company.
Games have really been one of the few territories Google has gone into, and with AAPL and MSFT gating off their respective markets (as you said), coming in and snagging Steam before it's too late makes a lot of sense.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 1 ]bids

RE: Inquirer: Google to buy Valve@oznerol,A website I like to read (you should all RSS it) from a former upity up at Codemasters predicted such a move about a year ago...I think it is a defensive move on Google's part to ensure they have a foothold in the game advertising space before being 'locked out' by iTunes game distribution (I believe they will beef up AppleTV and use it as a casual games distribution node straight to the living room) and LIVE.
