Blizzard today announced that StarCraft II will be released as a trilogy of separate games, each concentrating on one of the universe's three factions. The first game in the trilogy will consist of the Terran campaign, and is set to be titled "Terrans: Wings of Liberty." The second Zerg-focused title will be "Zerg: Heart of the Swarm," with the third game being "Protoss: Legacy of the Void."

I submitted the 2nd and 3rd Starcraft 2 games a little while back. Regarding the splitting of shares and such, I think that might be too complex and time consuming for KoC to try and do? Maybe it would just be easiest to have the later games IPO.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

I think this stock should be split in to 3 different stocks and all three new stocks should be priced at 1/3rd of the price before split! As for volume...i say we should get the same amount of shares in each of the new 3 as we had when it was one. Or we could split our total number of shares equally between the three which i guess would keep the total value of those 3 in our portfolio the same right?
I think that sounds like fun and would make for some nice (and additional) trading opportunities within our cool little market here!
I also think trading these three will be interesting in general, because they will all be the same thing just different. And they will keep the main component the same, which is multiplayer. Meaning the only reason you would buy more than one is because you like to play Starcraft against the computer...Essentially expansion packs for the campaign...how would these sell...[ Elite ] [ Level 13 ] [ Rank: 741 ]bids

Yes - it is OK. A public company's primary responsibility is to turn a profit for shareholders. Look at APPL. In 2000, it was still essentially a niche software/hardware company. Then came the iPod. Then the Macbook. Then iPhone. Etc, etc.
Splitting the game into 3 parts is almost definitely a financial move on Blizzard's part. More sales, more development time, greater profits.

Features being added or taken away are much less significant than a game being turned into 3 separate products. As for my example, I was trying to suggest that it had occurred all within a close timeframe as eachother, and that everything was legally binded.
Oh well, I guess just letting the stock be is fine.
As for the PS3, well, right now I don't even have enough time for the games I own and I've made a point to not buy a PS3 until I finish these. So it may be awhile.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

Exactly why I don't agree with rolling back OR delisting...this is simply more information about a game and a name change...the market will adjust to it no different than Ghostbusters changing publishers or Fable having/not having online..or DS become DSi...it is more or less features than expected but it doesn't negate the stock.
I don't think it should be rolled back but I do think that is a more consistent approach than allowing this stock to be cashed out at current prices.

So if it is announced that a company will be created and you buy stock in it, then its okay for them to announce after they get your money, that the company you bought stock in is not what they had announced. It is actually a different company than what you were told it would be, and the company you planned to have your money invested in is now a completely separate company.
Why disrupt the market and have people invested in something different than what was originally announced, when you have control over the market (it is not real) and you can easily fix it.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

The same as any other stock - if a company decides to start a new business strategy, change management, invest in new technology, etc - the stock for that company then reflects that company's potential.
In this case, the game listed - Starcraft II - is for the initial release of the game. If that is just game one of a 3-part series, so be it. Stock prices fluctuate with the news. Such is life.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 1 ]bids

The current prices should reflect what people think as that is the function of them. Unfortunately, the crowds may not be as accurate as smaller subgroups of the crowds?
Paying this stock out and coming out with the Terrans- Wings of Liberty stock, just because that has not been done before with a delisting does not mean it's the wrong thing to do. Every other game that was delisted was delisted because the games were canceled. This is different.
If the name is simply changed, then I believe it should be done before Blizzard anounces the pricepoint for Terrans- Wings of Liberty.
Honestly, I would end up better personally if it was rolled back as I have 2.5 million dkp shorting this at a price lower than its current price... but I am advocating what I think is best for the community IMO.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

Paying this stock out now and then coming out with a new stock representing WoL is not the right thing...We've never done that with any other delisting, we roll back the trades...as that is essentially what we would be doing.

Locking at the current price is basically delisting the stock at the price everyone felt it should be at before we learned that the game would not be the game we currently have listed. Why roll it back? Why roll it back, where years worth of trades and everyone's dkp will be affected unpredictably?
There are 3 separate parts of Starcraft II now. The first part may cost much less than the SC II we were predicting. Instead of $50, it could be as low as $20-$30 for the first part. With a lower price point I think it would sell more.

Sounds to me like seperate products that can work together but you don't need 1 for 2 or 3...therefore they should be treated as 3 seprate games.

I don't think the 1st installment will be affected sales wise, with the addition of the 2nd and 3rd game releases. The only way that would happen is if a) the 2nd and/or 3rd release very quickly after the 1st (some people may just want online or don't care for 3 campaigns) or b) the 2nd and 3rd releases can stand on their own storywise (not have to play the 1st SC2 Terran game to understand). I think a) is quite possible but b) is unlikely, but a) won't have a huge impact on sales of the 1st game. Sorry if that was convoluted.
