The total console installed base for the UK has leapt to 22 million year-on-year, up from 13.5 million reported in January 2008.
The results were revealed in GAME’s Christmas trading statement, citing Gfk-ChartTrack data, which shows that sales of Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 consoles have jumped from 4.7 million to ten million units as of January 3rd 2009.

There is certainly brand loyalty, or at the very least hightened brand awareness. Many times I have heard and seen the younger teens who are slightly more casual gamers (as in don't read websites etc.) want a PS3 purely as it's Playstation. They see the 360 as a cheap imposter almost, they are not as aware of it, and would much rather stick with the safer Playstation brand. Not too long ago i was standing on a street waiting to meet a friend and a bloke walked along with his two fairly young kids, they were pestering him for a PS3, he tried to explain the 360 was cheaper and had better games etc. but they did not care as they wanted a Playstation.

MS has been saying that (360>PS3 weekly) ever since X360 price drop, and this article confirm it.
I don't think there is brand loyalty at all in the videogames sector. I believe the games are the most important part of equation, compared to brand loyalty.
There was no brand loyalty when PS1 compete against N64. There was also no brand loyalty when PS3 compete against Wii.
I had PS1 and PS2, and I only have GC (didn't have N64), so someone might "think" that I am loyal to Sony, especially since I have more PS2 games than GC games.
This generation, I have Wii, but no PS3. Those games that I bought on PS2 was not released yet on PS3, and should it be released simultaneously with Wii version, I think I don't need to buy PS3. I think I might purchase X360 over PS3, especially if there is no "good" (for me) PS3 exclusive.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]bids

It would appear that the 360 is winning, which is suprising considering the brand loyalty to Sony we have over here. Im guessing it's mainly down to the price though.[ Oracle ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 150 ]bids

as i understood it, i thought the "brand loyalty" to sony was more rampant/apparent in non-UK countries. seeing sales in UK, i get the impression that the 360 is equal or preferred to the PS3.
