Sony may be readying a proper successor to the PlayStation Portable, reports IGN, with a "widescreen multi-touch interface" equipped PSP2 "on the horizon." If you're expecting further details on the rumored hardware, bail out now.
As IGN points out though, things like an iPhone-esque multi-touch interface wouldn't come as a surprise to virtually anyone. It's practically guaranteed to have one, so we'd consider this more than a safe bet — it's an inevitability.

I said 90% of the news articles posted here are taken directly from Kotaku and Joystiq.
They are - even when those sites are merely citing another site.
I didn't say I agreed with it.
The stuff here is just slightly filtered content from the gaming blogs.

I don't agree with RSS feeds from Kotaku and Joystiq. Those are general purpose website, with any kind of news. I prefer reading simEx news, since it is mostly focused on the sales related news.
Personally, I don't believe PSP2 is coming soon. Sony are bleeding money on their PS3, and PSP are not bleeding money. If they launch PSP2 in very near future, they will also bleed money on PSP2, which doesn't make sense. It is in Sony's interest to prolong PSP usage as long as possible, to get more benefit from it. It could be a fake statement from Sony. I'm not sure about the credibility of the MCV site that posted the response.
As for posting a Kotaku article and not the IGN one directly - it's because most people here just scour the gaming blogs and rehash their articles (which in turn reference another site).

That's an interesting response from Sony. I'm not sure why they would insult the media since they rely on sites like IGN to push information about their products to the public. It is particularly odd as well because PR people tend to be very careful about stepping on toes. The more I think about it, I don't think that could be a real statement.

It's expected they will now go after Palm, RIM, and every other device maker using the multi-touch screens. We will have to see if they go for royalties or simply cease & desist orders.
Sony has had patent violation problems in the past (the hold up with the force-feedback controllers). It'd be interesting to see what happens here.
If the PSP2 plays games that are incompatible with the PSP, then it will be considered a completely separate console from the PSP GLS stock.[ Admin ]bids
