"Activision announced today at the GDC in San Francisco, USA that the new Call of Duty only 'Modern Warfare 2'is to be called. They dropped the line Call of Duty in the title. This is the official title of the game. After all the hassle to the title Bioshock, Activision keeps it clear and confirmed this immediately."

I don't understand your VGC post, especially the "call a console PISS sorry Wii and it sold OK". Maybe you are willing to elaborate more on it ?

Maybe it is suggested by IWard ? Since the setting is different (modern vs. history), and it is easier for gamer to remember COD as history one, since all game except COD4 is history based (just like KoC suggested).[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 14935 ]bids

Seems they could not grasp that I was not bad mouthing the Wii rather suggesting that what sounded ridiculous actually appeared to have little effect.

I think they realize with COD:WAW that the established name is enough to get millions of sales, and that Modern Warfare will get even better sales. So they're trying to create two high selling IPs out of one. But I think they just might completely tarnish the COD name since I doubt Treyarch will be able to push it like IWard did. I wonder why ATVI would decide to drop the powerful "Call of Duty" brand from the game's title. My guess is they were surprised by the interest in the modern setting and want to spin off the line completely, keeping Call of Duty as a World War franchise while developing a separate franchise out of Modern Warfare. This way Modern Warfare 2 won't be confused as Call of Duty 6.[ Admin ]bids

Possibly, though I think Activision is the one behind it and its all about money. Given their recent moves that generally reflect greed and arrogance as the #1 publisher in the world, acting like the old EA but worse.
If it was suggested by IWard the reason I see them doing such a thing is to differentiate themselves from Treyarch and a series that was being created by 2 different studios under the same name. Still, did they really want to abandon the name/series they worked so hard to create. Maybe they see that it is worth it, but I still see ATV responsible.
