Nintendo have revealed that since going on sale the DSi has sold 435,000 units in the United States.
To put that in perspective, they say that after the same amount of time on the market, the DS Lite had sold "only" 226,300 units.

The form factor for PSP Slim is not its selling point. No one really cares about changes in PSP form factor that much (unless they were radical changes) and many I've heard actually prefer the form factor of the original PSP since it feels more sturdy.
PSP Slim's selling points are better dpad, buttons, and analog, more memory (for faster load times and web browsing), better screens (although 3000 vs 2000 is debated, but still better than original), TV Out ability, and better battery life if you use the larger battery. Price drop while phasing out original model also helped.
I'm not sure how dramatic the improvements to wireless ability are or peoples' views of that or the ability to charge via usb.
