Pachter says, "In order to hit its full-year Wii shipment forecast, we expect Nintendo to cut the price of the Wii before [the] holiday, likely to $199.99." "In the second half of the year, we expect Sony to cut price for the PS3, and if the cut is deep enough, we expect Microsoft to respond (either with bundles or with a price cut of its own, even as Microsoft just introduced a Xbox 360 Elite bundle with free games Halo 3 and Fable II)."

The point Dr Mario Kart is not Wii sales relative to Sony MSFT but that Nintendo gave a forecast of 25M Wii's this year, and Patcher is saying to hit that goal they need a price cut. RE: Analyst Predicts Wii & PS3 Price Cuts, 360 Cut/BundleWhile the Wii has been in decline worldwide, its still outselling its competitors combined (roughly), so its more like the Wii is just now not selling like it was at LAUNCH (in the US). Supply has met demand, but that is not a condition for a price drop, or everyone would drop the price 6 months out from launch. The price drop card is a big play, and should be used sparingly.
I'm all for power moves and price wars, but it wouldnt surprise me if Wii held at launch price into 2010. Heck, they just went through the trouble of RAISING the price in the UK. Since Nintendo's current fiscal year ends in March 2010, they might be able to get by with holding off until after the holidays to drop the price.[ Veteran ] [ Level 22 ] [ Rank: 448 ]bids

The Wii is seeing a decline in sales now so a price cut for the Xmas period sounds plausable. The PS3 has definately been in need of a price cut but for obvious reasons Sony have held off but again a Xmas period price cut sounds just as likely.
For my money though I think MS are also just as likely to produce a price cut if only to try and stimulate another perfect storm. They have the new features within Xbox and they have the titles so I fully expect them to go for the juggler again irrespective of Sony potentially forcing their hand.[ Oracle ] [ Level 30 ] [ Rank: 60 ]bids
