Chart-Track has told GamesIndustry.biz that sales of the PlayStation 3 have rocketed over 999 per cent in the past week, shifting eleven times the number of units sold the prior week.
Sony introduced the new, slimmer SKU last Tuesday. "The uplift on week 36 on week 35 is plus 999 per cent," revealed Bloch. "We don't give out the hardware numbers, but never-the-less it's a very large increase."

40,000 / 11 = 3,636 last week
360
40,000 / 3 = 13,333 this week
which was 29% over last week so
last week was 10,335?
10,335 / 3,636 = 2.84
Almost 3 to 1. Though my math should be checked, I forget how to arrive at a # for lowering a % increase to its original #.

I agree it was outselling PS3, I just don't see how we can pinpoint it at 3 to 1. 360 could've been higher or lower than 3 to 1. I'm sorry if I come off in a bad way about this.
I don't think ratios are that great, though I see it's all we have to deal with currently, as comparisons between systems - especially last week -require hard #s as PS3 supply was probably very low in stores at the same time the Elite dropped.[ Oracle ] [ Level 26 ] [ Rank: 241 ]bids

Rest of news article provided % increases for X360 for previous 2 weeks. I think it is safe to say that X360 was outselling PS3 for the previous week, we just cannot say exactly by how much. With these data, you should be able to approximate the relative sales for both systems prior to slim launch.
"The news follows a climb in Xbox 360 sales of 43 per cent last week, due to the price cut for the Elite model to GBP 199.

We can reverse calculate PS3 sales for the previous week from the 999%, but I don't see how you do the same for 360.
Say this week
PS3 300,000 (999% increase)
360 100,000 (? increase/decrease)
3 to 1

Still not making sense to me. If sales of something are 3 times that of something else at this point in time, that doesn't tell you anything about what the sales were a week before. Hypothetically, PS3 could have been even higher in sales a week ago even though it is 3 times the sales now. A sales comparison between items now tells us nothing about past sales.

(3 times higher)
or
last week
PS3 50,000

Simple Mathematics.
Let's say that PS3 sales before PS3 slim = X.
We know that Y, which is PS3 sales during PS3 Slim launch = 999% improvement from X = 9.99X + X = 11 X.
We know that 11 X = 3 * X360 sales, which means that X = X360 * 3 / 11 or roughly X360 / 3.

Which I think is reason enough to stay grounded until the initial demand is over.
