A new installment of Microsoft's marquee car franchise, Forza Motorsport, is set to arrive in October. We've not had a chance to turn any laps in Forza Motorsport 4 yet, but in anticipation of a full review in the coming weeks, I spoke with Dan Greenawalt, Lead Game Designer at Turn 10, about the studio's latest arrival and the nuts and bolts of making a driving sim.

With Forza 4 now merely weeks away, the extent that Top Gear's taken over the game has been revealed - and it's pretty impresive to say the least. A few things are as we expected - when you're choosing a car to race in, and you press a button, you'll be able to activate the game's AutoVista mode, where you'll be treated to views of an incredibly realistic model of the car, while the typically ascerbic Jeremy Clarkson tells you all about what it does.

Late last week, Nintendo revealed it was working on an extra slide pad for the Nintendo 3DS. Today, the company dated and priced said extra slide pad. The slide pad will cost ¥1,500 (US$19), and it will be released on December 10. No word on its US release. The peripheral is powered by a single AA battery.

August NPD: Annual sales drop again, Deus Ex top spot

Gaming hardware saw an increase in sales over July, largely fueled by the price cuts endured by the 3DS and PlayStation 3. According to a memo sent out by Nintendo following the NPD report, the 3DS discount moved 185,000 consoles from August 12 through the end of the month. This wave managed to increase dollar and unit sales of handheld hardware to a year-over-year increase over August 2010, which bucks the downward trend followed by the rest of the industry
