Mario Party 8 is the eleventh installment of the Mario Party series and the first for the Nintendo Wii. Mario Party is a collection of 75 multiplayer minigames designed for the motion-sensing Wiimote.
Players choose among 14 Nintendo characters to compete in minigames that include: a game where players use the controller like a lasso to grab barrels, a game where players shake the controller to shake a soda can so that it spouts soda when opened, and a game where players hold the Wiimote horizontally and tilt the controller to tilt a platform to move marbles into corresponding tubes.
Like previous Mario Party games, there are power-ups that players can collect to aid their character in different situations. Mario Party 8 can be played 1v1, 2v2, 1v3, and competitive 4 player.

With sales north of 426k copies, Mario Party 8 topped the sales charts during the June NPD reporting period.
Combined with May's 314k, Mario Party 8 is well on its way to 1 million units sold in America.

Mario Party 8 is officially the fastest selling game in the entire series, selling 550k since May 29th.

Nintendo Recalls Mario Party 8 in UK

You may remember the DS game that was recalled a few weeks back because of an 'offensive' name that it tagged players who got a score of 0, well it seems that Nintendo really like the word 'spastic' and have included it in the not-so-good Wii game, Mario Party 8. As such, the game has also been recalled.

It shipped another 500K units in the 3 months after you posted that, to 4.86M units.

This game is hard to predict because of Nintendo's new policy of holding everything close to their chest until close to release time. They could conceivably have a new Mario Party in August, and cut sales short.
Or, with the ridiculous sales of MP8 and MPDS, they could be ready to "promote" the franchise, and have fewer, higher selling entries, like they do with the bulk of their franchises, in which case MP9 might become a major holiday release for November, or even a spring or summer 2009 game, in which case MP8 could sell 1M+ more.
