Guitar Hero III is the third main installment in Activision's Guitar Hero music videogame franchise. Neversoft takes over development duties for all console versions of Guitar Hero III from the former developer Harmonix. Each next-gen edition will feature a wireless guitar controller, modeled after the legendary Gibson Les Paul model. Guitar Hero III will feature far more master recordings than its predecessors, as well as significant online features for all next-gen editions.

Besides the NPD information comes this little tidbit: Just short of the top 10 best-sellers for the month was Guitar Hero III for Wii (#11), which managed to tack on another 500,000-plus in sales, putting Activision's Wii music entry well beyond the million-seller point.

There's really not a whole lot to "get" about Guitar Hero, but whatever there is, you absolutely have to get it right. If the song selection stinks, or if the note layouts are boring or don't make musical sense, or if the strum/fret timing is off...then the whole game suffers for it. These are the three critical components, and Neversoft absolutely nailed them.
