GDC 08: Innovating Wipeout Without Messing it Up

1UP - February 22, 2008

Submitted by Gaara42 (8) at 12:34PM PST on February 23, 2008

Wipeout Pulse on PSP improved accessibility through a structured single-player campaign, freely selectable A.I. difficulty and the game's "Zone" mode, which forced players to focus solely on steering the game's hovercrafts rather than accelerating on top of steering. Custom MP3 soundtracks and JPEG photo-taking, plus "no-brainers" like autosaving and custom controls. Players can personalize the game through the ship-skin editor and creating custom Grid campaigns, and player stat tracking.

Wipeout Pulse Gets 9.0

IGN.com (AU) - December 10, 2007

Submitted by RabidRoach (865) at 8:45AM PST on January 23, 2008

WipEout Pulse is the new racer to own on the PSP. It feels better, plays better, sounds better and looks better than every other racer on the system. Hell, it's better than certain next-gen racers that we dare not mention. Sure, it’s not a massive reinvention of the series. But with almost three years free of the brain-frying WipEout experience, we’re just happy to have something new which recaptures the glory days of old.

GameSpy awards Pulse a solid 90

GameSpy - January 1, 2008

""Add to this equation a staggering variety of weapons (with accompanying cryptic icons) all capable of reducing your fellow competitors to fused hunks of flaming track detritus, a masterfully produced techno soundtrack and some clever online features and you've got a game that has essentially taken up permanent residence in our PSPs.
